Egypt’s Suez Canal was blocked by a large cargo ship!!!

This accident occurred on March 23, 2021, when Ever Given, one of the world’s largest container ships, ran aground and blocked the Suez Canal in Egypt.
The Ever Given departed from a port in China en route to the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, via the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean Sea. However, due to the canal’s narrowness in that area being less than the ship’s length,
shipping in that section of the Suez Canal was immediately disrupted, as other cargo ships could not pass.
Who owns the ship blocking the Suez Canal?
The Ever Given is owned by Evergreen Marine Corporation, a Taiwanese company.
Causes of the crisis
* Weather conditions: A sandstorm with gusts exceeding 74 kilometers per hour occurred.
* Control: Low visibility caused the ship to lose control, resulting in its bow and stern running aground on both sides of the canal.
Consequences
* Paralyzed traffic: A strategic shipping lane for global trade was temporarily closed.
* Stranded ships: More than 400 cargo and energy ships were unable to pass.
* Financial losses: Global trade suffered from shipping delays, amounting to billions of US dollars per day.
Salvage Operation
* Multi-faceted effort: Numerous tugboats were used in conjunction with dredging to remove silt and sand from the bow.
* Natural phenomenon: The operation was successfully completed on March 29, 2021, with the help of a supermoon (high tide) to provide additional lift to the ship.
